17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This oil on canvas painting, titled "The Shipwreck of the Minotaur" by the renowned English Romantic artist Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851), showcases a dramatic and evocative scene of a shipwreck off the coast of Portugal, specifically in Lisbon. The painting, created around 1810, is a prime example of Turner's mastery of color and light, as well as his ability to capture the raw power and emotion of nature. In the foreground, the remnants of the ship, the Minotaur, are visible, its mast and rigging jutting out of the churning, turquoise waters. The ship's sails are tattered and torn, a testament to the ferocity of the storm that has claimed it. In the background, the sun sets over the Portuguese coastline, casting a warm, golden glow over the scene. The painting is populated with figures, both men and women, who have been caught up in the disaster. Some are in the water, struggling to stay afloat, while others are clinging to the wreckage or attempting to rescue their fellow passengers. The faces of the figures are etched with fear, despair, and determination, adding to the sense of urgency and chaos in the scene. This powerful and evocative painting is now housed in the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Portugal, where it continues to captivate and inspire visitors from around the world. The horizontal composition, rich color palette, and intricate details make "The Shipwreck of the Minotaur" a must-see for anyone interested in Romanticism, maritime history, or the works of J.M.W. Turner.
