17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 14 from From Recherches pour servir a l'histoire naturelle des Mammifères, Vols. 1-4 (1868-74) by Dr. Henri Milne-Edwards (1800-1885) and Dr. Alphonse Milne-Edwards (1835-1900) presents a captivating illustration of the Complex-toothed Flying Squirrel, Trogopterus xanthipes, native to Eastern Asia. This agile and intriguing mammal is a member of the Lemuriformes order, with its closest relatives being lemurs and lorises. The Complex-toothed Flying Squirrel is renowned for its unique features, including its complex teeth, which are adapted for shearing and crushing nuts and seeds. The squirrel's body is covered in thick, soft fur, with a striking orange-brown coloration. Its large, membranous hind limbs enable it to glide through the forest canopy with remarkable ease and grace, making it an expert in daytime arboreal acrobatics. This exquisite drawing, produced in the late 19th century, offers a fascinating glimpse into the natural history of this remarkable creature. The meticulous attention to detail and the lifelike representation of the animal's anatomy and fur texture are a testament to the skill and expertise of the illustrators, Dr. Henri Milne-Edwards and Dr. Alphonse Milne-Edwards. As pioneering naturalists and zoologists, the Milne-Edwards brothers made significant contributions to the scientific understanding of the animal kingdom. Their comprehensive work on the mammals of the world, including this illustration of the Complex-toothed Flying Squirrel, remains a valuable resource for researchers and enthusiasts alike, offering a window into the natural world of the past.
