17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting portrait captures the essence of Theophile Gautier (1811-1872), a renowned French poet, dramatist, journalist, and literary critic of the 19th century. Born in Paris, Gautier's literary career began in earnest in the 1830s, during the Romantic period. He was a central figure in the Parnassian movement, which emphasized clarity, precision, and realism in literature. Gautier's works were marked by their wit, sensuality, and elegance. He wrote both poetry and prose, including novels, plays, and critical essays. His most famous works include the novel "Mademoiselle de Maupin" and the play "Faust and Marguerite." As a journalist, Gautier was a prolific contributor to various publications, including the influential literary journal "Le Figaro." He was also a passionate advocate for the arts, and his critical essays on painting and sculpture helped to establish the reputations of many artists of his time. This beautifully colored engraving, likely produced during Gautier's lifetime, captures the poet's refined and sophisticated persona. With his piercing gaze and elegant attire, Gautier appears as a man of the world, both intellectual and sensual. The use of color adds depth and richness to the portrait, making it a captivating work of art in its own right. Today, Theophile Gautier is remembered as a master of French literature and a pioneering figure in the development of modern French culture. His works continue to be celebrated for their wit, elegance, and insight into the human condition.
