17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 17 of 'The Life and Habits of Wild Animals,' published in London in 1874, captures the intriguing moment of 'The Shadow Dance' between a Fox (Vulpes vulpes) and a Rabbit (Lepus europaeus). This stunning illustration, created by the renowned natural history artist Joseph Wolf (1820-1899), showcases the agility and stealth of the true fox as it blends into the countryside, ready to pounce on its unsuspecting prey. The 19th century image portrays the Fox in its natural habitat, outside the confines of a box or enclosure. The epithets Caniformia, Canidae, Caninae, Carnivora, Eutheria, Placental Mammal, and Theria are all applicable to both the Fox and Rabbit, as they belong to the same class (Mammalia) and order (Lagomorpha and Canidae, respectively). The Fox, a carnivorous predator, is shown in its daytime hunting mode, while the Rabbit, a herbivorous lagomorph, is engrossed in its daytime activities. The Shadow Dance is a testament to the delicate balance of nature, where the hunter and the hare share the same countryside, each living in their unique ways. The intricate details of the illustration, from the individual hairs on the Fox's coat to the subtle shading that creates the illusion of shadow, highlight Joseph Wolf's exceptional artistic skills. The Victorian era, with its fascination for wildlife and natural history, is brought to life through this image. As we observe this timeless moment, we are reminded of the rich history of wildlife and the intricate relationships that exist between various species. The Shadow Dance is a reminder of the beauty and complexity of nature, frozen in time by the skilled hand of Joseph Wolf.
