23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking image showcases a beautifully preserved mounted specimen of the elusive and extinct Raphus cucullatus, commonly known as the dodo. The dodo was a flightless bird endemic to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and is believed to have lived until the late 1600s. With its distinctive long, grey body, large, red eyes, and rounded wings, the dodo was a unique avian species that belonged to the Columbidae family, order Columbiformes, and class Sauropsida. The dodo's extinction is largely attributed to human activity, as the birds were easy targets for hunters due to their lack of ability to fly and their trusting nature. This mounted specimen, with its feathers carefully arranged and preserved, serves as a poignant reminder of the dodo's existence and the tragic loss of this remarkable bird. Displayed in a studio setting against a neutral background, the dodo's intricate details are on full display. Its beak, curved and slightly downward, is a testament to its powerful bite, which it used to crush the hard-shelled seeds and nuts that made up a significant portion of its diet. The dodo's feet, with their three toes each, are adapted for walking on the ground and are covered in a layer of scutes for protection. As a sauropsid, the dodo shares a common ancestry with reptiles, and is part of the suborder Raphinae. Its extinction marked the end of an era, leaving behind a rich legacy of fascination and wonder for future generations to explore and learn from. This mounted specimen, a testament to the dodo's unique place in the natural world, continues to captivate and inspire curiosity in all who behold it.
