23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This illustration, Plate 32 from Guillaume Louis Figuier's seminal work "The World before the Deluge" published in 1891, depicts a riveting scene of primeval man in his natural habitat. Figuier, a renowned French naturalist and author, meticulously captured the essence of the prehistoric era through his intricate and evocative illustrations. The image portrays a hunter, armed with a spear, in pursuit of a herd of mammals in a lush, verdant forest. Among the animals, we find an elephantid mammoth, an elephantine creature with long, curved tusks and a massive body, as well as other large mammals, such as an elephantine deer and a rhinoceros. The scene unfolds during daytime hours, with the sun casting dappled light through the foliage, creating a sense of depth and texture. Figuier's illustration offers a fascinating glimpse into the behavior of early humans and the animals they coexisted with during the 1819-1894 timeframe. The mammoth, a member of the Elephantidae family, was a colossal creature that roamed the Earth during the Pleistocene epoch. Its extinction, along with other megafauna, is often attributed to the arrival of humans and their hunting practices. This image, a testament to the artistic and scientific prowess of the 19th century, invites us to explore the rich history of our planet and the intriguing relationship between man and the natural world. The epithets Eutheria, Mammalia, and Epitheria are all relevant to the mammals depicted in the illustration, with Eutheria being the infraclass that includes mammals, Mammalia being the class, and Epitheria being the superorder that includes living and extinct mammals with a bone in the lower jaw that articulates with the squamosal bone of the skull.
