17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This portrait depicts the Right Honorable James Craggs the Younger (1686-1721), an influential figure during the early 18th century in England. The portrait, created as a handcolored engraving from Charles Martin's "Civil Costume of England from the Conquest to the Present Period," offers a glimpse into the opulence and grandeur of the era. James Craggs is dressed in a crimson jacket, a striking color that signifies his high social status. The jacket is adorned with intricate lace cuffs, adding an elegant touch to the garment. The young Sir Godfrey, as he was also known, wears a tricorn hat, a popular headgear during the 18th century. The hat is adorned with a feather, further emphasizing his rank and wealth. Buckled shoes and hose complete his outfit, with the hose reaching up to his knees. The detailed illustration also reveals the fine textures of the fabric, the intricate patterns on the lace, and the meticulous stitching on the jacket. The portrait was drawn from various sources, including tapestries, monumental effigies, illuminated manuscripts, and portraits. The Martin brothers, Charles and Leopold, were responsible for bringing this historical image to life through their exceptional artistic skills. Charles, the draftsman, captured the essence of the period, while Leopold, the engraver, brought the intricate details to life through his masterful etching techniques. This illustration provides a fascinating insight into the fashion and historical context of the 18th century in England, offering a captivating glimpse into a bygone era. The portrait of James Craggs the Younger is not only a testament to the artistic prowess of the Martin brothers but also a valuable historical document that continues to intrigue and inspire.
