17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative pen and ink sketch in verso, or reverse, showcases a portrait of Corporal Kitchen from the 20th Battalion, The County of London Regiment during the First World War. The intricate detail and shading in the artwork bring Corporal Kitchen to life, capturing the intensity and resilience of a soldier in the heat of battle. The portrait was created by an artist who studied at the prestigious Lambeth School of Art, located at St. Oswalds Place, Upper Kennington Lane in London. At the time this portrait was created, in 1895, the subject of the sketch, Corporal Kitchen, resided at 6 Amott Road in Peckham Rye. The 20th Battalion, also known as the "Finsbury Rifles," was one of the Pals Battalions raised in London during the First World War. These battalions were formed from men who lived and worked in the same community, creating a strong sense of camaraderie and unity among the soldiers. The portrait of Corporal Kitchen serves as a poignant reminder of the brave men and women who served in the military during this tumultuous time in history. The intricacies of the pen and ink sketch, combined with the historical context, make this a valuable addition to any collection of topographical paintings or military history. This image is offered as a rights-managed print from Mary Evans Prints Online and is not intended for commercial use. It is a unique piece of history that offers a glimpse into the past, providing a connection to the soldiers who fought in the First World War and the artists who captured their likenesses.
