17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 1 from 'The Shape, Skeleton and Foliage of Thirty Two Species of Trees' by Alexander Cozens, published in 1786, offers a captivating glimpse into the world of botanical illustration during the 18th century. This particular print showcases the Aspen tree (Populus tremula), a member of the Salicaceae family and the Populus genus. As a deciduous tree native to Europe and Asia, the Aspen is an important species within the order Magnoliophyta, which includes all flowering plants. Cozens' meticulous illustration reveals the tree's intricate structure, highlighting its eudicotyledonous nature as a dicot, or dicot, and its membership in the Rosid clade of the Rosids subclass. The Aspen is also an angiosperm, characterized by its enclosed seeds, and a member of the Malpighiales order within the larger Eudicots. The tree's skeletal structure is depicted in fine detail, with the delicate branches and twigs extending from the main trunk, providing a clear representation of its woody framework. The foliage is illustrated with precision, showcasing the characteristic triangular-shaped leaves with serrated edges that are typical of the Aspen. This historic botanical illustration not only serves as a testament to Cozens' artistic skill but also provides valuable insights into the classification and understanding of plant species during the late 18th century. The intricate details and precise labeling make it an essential resource for botanists, naturalists, and historians alike, offering a window into the rich history of botanical exploration and discovery.
