23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the vibrant and authentic atmosphere of a traditional halal butcher shop in Houmt Souk, Djerba, Tunisia, taken in 1987. The image transports us back in time to the bustling markets of North Africa, where the sights, sounds, and smells of fresh meat were a daily part of life. The butcher shop is filled with the red and glistening carcasses of freshly slaughtered animals, hanging from hooks and lying on tables. A large beast's head, its eyes closed in a peaceful repose, dominates the scene, while smaller sheep's heads and feet are neatly arranged on a table. Tripe, a popular ingredient in Tunisian cuisine, is displayed in a large pile, ready to be prepared for various dishes. The use of the term "halal" indicates that the animals were slaughtered according to Islamic law, ensuring that the meat is considered pure and permissible for consumption. This practice is an essential part of the Islamic faith and is still widely followed in Tunisia and other Muslim countries. The photograph's rich colors and textures bring the scene to life, allowing us to imagine the haggling and banter that would have taken place between the butcher and his customers. The image is a testament to the deep cultural and historical connections that bind the people of Djerba and Tunisia to their land and their traditions.
