English Electric Canberra PR. 7 - PR. 9 prototype WH793
English Electric Canberra PR.7 (PR.9 prototype) WH793, at the 1955 SBAC Farnborough Air-show. A brand new PR.7 taken from the production line and converted by D. Napier and Sons Ltd. with increased chord centre-section and Rolls-Royce Avon 200-series engines. The wings had 3 ft 10 in increased span and 85sq ft more area. Flight testing of WH793 revealed that the service-ceiling fell short of the expected 65, 000 ft+, due to unexpected drag rise at high altitude. Date: 1955

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the English Electric Canberra PR.7 (PR.9 prototype) WH793 at the 1955 SBAC Farnborough Airshow, fresh from the production line and recently converted by D. Napier and Sons Ltd. The PR.7 is a military reconnaissance variant of the Canberra jet bomber, which underwent significant modifications to enhance its capabilities. The aircraft was fitted with increased chord centre-sections and Rolls-Royce Avon 200-series engines, along with wings that boasted a 3 ft 10 in increased span and 85sq ft more area. The PR.7's impressive upgrades were showcased at the Farnborough Airshow, attracting the attention of aviation enthusiasts and industry professionals alike. However, during the flight testing phase, unexpected issues arose. The service ceiling, which was anticipated to surpass 65,000 ft+, fell short of expectations due to an unexplained drag rise at high altitudes. Despite this setback, the PR.7 continued to undergo further refinements and testing to address the issue and optimize its performance. This image offers a glimpse into the cutting-edge aviation technology of the mid-1950s, as engineers and designers worked tirelessly to push the boundaries of what was possible in military aviation. The English Electric Canberra PR.7, with its innovative upgrades and advanced engineering, paved the way for future generations of military aircraft and reconnaissance platforms. [End of Caption]
