Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife and her daughters
Louise, Princess Royal of Great Britain, Duchess of Fife (1867-1931), third child and eldest daughter of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, pictured with her two daughters, Alexandra, 2nd Duchess of Fife, later Princess Arthur of Connaught (1891-1959) standing by her mother, and, seated, Princess Maud (1893-1945). Mother and daughters are in mourning for the Duke of Fife who died of pleurisy at Aswan on 29th January 1912. The Fifes were sailing to Egypt in December 1911 when their ship, the P&O liner, Delhi, hit a sandbank off Cape Trafalgar. The Fifes were among the last to leave the ship, and the ship's boat on which they were taken was swamped several times by waves; Princess Alexandra was washed over but a young engineer clung to her hand. Maud was also washed over closer to shore, and once all the passengers had struggled to the beach they had a five-mile walk to find shelter. After the trauma of such an event, the Duke developed a cough and fever which eventually led to his death. Date: 1912

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This poignant print captures Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife, with her two daughters, Alexandra and Maud, in a moment of deep mourning. The trio is pictured together following the tragic death of the Duke of Fife from pleurisy in 1912.
The family had experienced a harrowing ordeal just months prior when their ship, the Delhi, hit a sandbank off Cape Trafalgar during a voyage to Egypt. Despite being among the last to leave the sinking ship and enduring multiple swamping waves on their rescue boat, they all managed to make it safely to shore. However, the Duke's health deteriorated as a result of this traumatic experience and he ultimately succumbed to illness.
In this somber image, Princess Louise stands tall with her daughters by her side as they navigate through grief and loss. Alexandra later became known as Princess Arthur of Connaught while Maud tragically passed away at a young age.
The strength and resilience displayed by these royal women in the face of tragedy is truly remarkable. Their bond as mother and daughters shines through even in moments of sorrow, serving as an inspiration for us all.
