23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite hand-colored copperplate stipple engraving is a beautiful representation of Josephinia imperatricis, also known as Josephine's Crown or Gioseffinia coronata. The plant is depicted in all its glory, with its large, edible fruit surrounded by delicate, veined leaves. The illustration is taken from Antoine Laurent de Jussieu's Dizionario delle Scienze Naturali, published in Florence, Italy, in 1837. The illustration was engraved by Corsi, under the direction of the renowned French botanical illustrator Pierre Jean-Francois Turpin (1775-1840). Turpin is considered one of the greatest botanical illustrators of the 19th century, known for his meticulous attention to detail and ability to capture the true essence of the plants he depicted. Josephinia imperatricis is a rare and fascinating plant, native to Central and South America. Its large, pome-like fruit, which resembles a crown, is edible and was highly prized by the indigenous peoples of the region. The plant is no longer in existence today, having gone extinct. The illustration also includes several other plants in the same family, such as Asaphus caudigerus, Agnostus pisiformis, Ogygia di Guettard, and Agnosto pisiforme. These plants, along with Josephinia imperatricis, were likely included in the Dizionario delle Scienze Naturali to showcase the diversity of the plant kingdom during the 19th century. This stunning illustration is a testament to the beauty and intricacy of the natural world, and a reminder of the importance of preserving and documenting the natural world for future generations.
