23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This hand-colored copperplate engraving by Andrea Freschi, after Antoine Cardon, depicts an itinerant bookseller plying his trade in China during the early 19th century. The image, taken from Henri-Leonard Jean Baptiste Bertin and Jean Baptiste Joseph Breton's comprehensive work, "China, Its Costumes, Arts, Manufactures, etc.", published in London by Howlett and Brimmer in 1824, offers a glimpse into the daily life of a bookseller in this intriguing period and culture. The bookseller, positioned under a parasol for protection from the sun, displays an array of books and songbooks on his portable stall. His customers, members of the lower orders, gather around him, eagerly perusing the offerings. The bookseller's expressive face and animated gestures suggest that he is skillfully weaving tales to captivate his audience, adding to the allure of his wares. The meticulously detailed engraving showcases the vibrant colors and textures of the books, the intricate patterns on the parasol, and the richly decorated clothing of the bookseller and his patrons. The scene is a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and the importance of books as a source of knowledge and entertainment, particularly for those in the lower socio-economic classes. This enchanting image offers a unique perspective on the daily life and cultural practices of China during the early 19th century, making it an invaluable addition to any collection focused on Asian history, art, or literature.
