23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking image captures the chaos and tension of the Attack on the Fresnillo Silver Mine in Mexico during the year 1860. In the center of the square, several men, with their hands bound, are being led away by troops on horseback under the command of General Miramon. The scene is one of brutal suppression as the military forces take control of the mine and its valuable silver reserves. The background of the photograph reveals the imposing structures of the mine buildings, which have been breached, with soldiers emerging from the openings, carrying silver bars. The attack on Fresnillo was a significant event during the Second French Intervention in Mexico, a period of political instability and foreign intervention that lasted from 1861 to 1867. The French forces, led by Napoleon III, sought to reinstall the Mexican Emperor Maximilian I, who was sympathetic to the French interests. The Mexican resistance, led by various generals, including Miramon, fought to defend their country's sovereignty. The attack on Fresnillo was a strategic move by the Mexican forces to deny the French the access to the rich silver reserves, which were crucial for funding their military campaigns. The photograph provides a glimpse into the brutal realities of the conflict, with the men being led away likely to face imprisonment or worse. The silver bars being taken from the mine symbolize the stakes of the war and the intense struggle for control over Mexico's natural resources.
