17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Mungo Park: A Scottish Explorer's Courageous Crossing of the Black River in West Africa, 1795 This evocative image captures the moment of determination and adventure as Scottish explorer Mungo Park (1771-1806) bravely fords the Black River, a major tributary of the Senegal River in West Africa. The year is 1795, and Park, clad in a simple white shirt and trousers, wades through the murky waters, guided by local porters. The rugged terrain of the African landscape is depicted in the background, with rolling hills and distant mountains framing the scene. Park's groundbreaking exploration of the Niger River basin in the late 1790s marked a significant milestone in European knowledge of the African continent. Having set out from the Gambia River in 1795, Park's journey took him deep into the heart of West Africa, where he became the first European to explore the Niger River's middle reaches. Despite facing numerous challenges, including hostile tribes, disease, and harsh terrain, Park persevered, documenting his discoveries and making invaluable contributions to the understanding of the region's geography, climate, and people. His account of his travels, "Travels in the Interior Districts of Africa," was published in 1806, just a year before his untimely death. This historic photograph, taken from the Mary Evans Picture Library, is a testament to the spirit of exploration and adventure that characterized the 1790s. The image offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the mysteries of the African continent were yet to be fully unraveled, and the courage and determination of explorers like Mungo Park paved the way for a deeper understanding of the world.
