31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Mania in the Heart of Financial London: A Glimpse into the Railway Speculators of Capel Court, 1845 This evocative photograph, taken in September 1845, captures the frenzied atmosphere of Capel Court, a narrow lane leading to the Stock Exchange in London, during the height of the railway mania. The image is a testament to the intense speculation and investment craze that gripped Britain during this period, as the country's transportation infrastructure underwent a rapid transformation. The photograph shows a throng of men, dressed in the fashion of the day, gathered around tables and poring over papers, engrossed in their negotiations and transactions. The scene is reminiscent of a bustling marketplace, with the sound of hushed voices and the rustle of papers filling the air. The men's expressions convey a range of emotions, from intense focus and determination to anxiety and uncertainty. Capel Court was a popular meeting place for railway speculators, who would gather to buy and sell shares in railway companies. The lane was located in the heart of financial London, just a stone's throw away from the Stock Exchange, where dealers would congregate to do business. The railway mania, which began in the late 1830s and lasted until the early 1840s, saw the rapid expansion of the railway network, as investors clamored to get in on the ground floor of what they believed would be lucrative ventures. The railway mania ultimately proved to be a financial bubble, as many of the proposed railway projects were unfeasible or uneconomical. The speculative frenzy came to an end in 1845, when the government was forced to intervene and bail out some of the struggling railway companies. The photograph captures a moment in time, a snapshot of history, that encapsulates the excitement, the hope, and the uncertainty of the railway mania in Britain.
