17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This image is taken from Plate 46 of the seminal work "Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium" by the renowned naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian. The photograph features a green caterpillar of the Erinnyis ello species, also known as the Hawk Moth Caterpillar, and its adult form, the E. ello Sphinx Moth or the Coral Hairstreak Hawk Moth. The scene unfolds on the lush foliage of the Royal Jasmine, scientifically known as Jasminum grandiflorum, a flowering plant belonging to the asterid clade within the dicotyledonous angiosperms. The adult moth, with its striking wings adorned with intricate patterns, rests on a branch, while its former self, the caterpillar, is seen feeding on the delicate white flowers of the jasmine plant. The Erinnyis ello is a member of the Sphingidae family, commonly known as hawk moths, which are characterized by their large size and long proboscis. The caterpillar, on the other hand, is a hexapod arthropod, part of the Diapsida class, and is covered in distinctive green and black markings. In the background, a coral snake, Corallus enhydris, can be seen coiled around a branch. This elapid snake is a venomous member of the Caenophidia suborder and is known for its vibrant colors and intricate patterns. The presence of the snake adds an extra layer of intrigue to this already fascinating scene, highlighting the complex interplay between various organisms within their natural habitat. This image is a testament to Merian's groundbreaking work in documenting the metamorphosis of insects and the intricate relationships between different species within their ecosystems. It continues to inspire and captivate audiences with its stunning visuals and invaluable scientific insights.
