Biplane Biplanes Gotha Heavy Wide Wing Wings Bomber

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph depicts a Gotha G II German three-man heavy bomber biplane, a formidable aerial weapon of the First World War. The Gotha G II, which first took to the skies in March 1916, was a significant addition to the German air fleet during the conflict. With its wide wingspan and distinctive white cross emblazoned on the sides, this biplane was a sight to behold both on the ground and in the sky. The Gotha G II was a three-man heavy bomber, designed to deliver large payloads of explosives to strategic targets deep behind enemy lines. Its crew consisted of a pilot, a navigator, and a gunner, who were responsible for navigating the aircraft to its destination and providing defensive fire against enemy fighters. The plane's heavy construction and robust design made it a formidable adversary, capable of withstanding significant damage. Despite its initial success, the Gotha G II's tenure in operational service was short-lived. By 1917, advances in Allied anti-aircraft technology and fighter planes made it increasingly difficult for the Gotha G II to carry out its bombing runs effectively. This photograph captures a moment in time when this iconic aircraft was still a fearsome presence in the skies of the Western Front, a testament to the technological innovations and military strategies of the First World War era.
