FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This haunting image depicts Edmund Arrowsmith (1585-1628), an English Catholic priest and martyr, who dedicated his life to spreading the faith in a time of religious persecution. Born in Lancashire, England, Arrowsmith was educated at the English College in Douai, France, where he was ordained a priest in 1610. Upon his return to England, he worked tirelessly as a missionary, ministering to the Catholic community and providing spiritual guidance to those in need. Despite the dangerous political climate, Arrowsmith continued his missionary work, often traveling in disguise to avoid capture. However, on March 26, 1628, he was apprehended in Lancaster and brought before the authorities. Despite repeated attempts to recant his faith, Arrowsmith remained steadfast in his beliefs and was sentenced to the gruesome punishment of hanging, drawing, and quartering. This image, created in the years following Arrowsmith's martyrdom, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Catholic priests and laity during the English Reformation. Arrowsmith's courage and unwavering commitment to his faith inspired generations of Catholics and continues to do so today. The image also underscores the historical significance of the English College in Douai, which played a crucial role in the education and formation of English Catholic clergy during a time of religious turmoil. This print, from the extensive collections of Mary Evans Prints Online, offers a glimpse into the past, providing valuable insights into the history of English Catholicism and the lives of those who risked everything to preserve their faith.
