17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Figure 20: A Line Drawing of Darwin's Darwins Pigeons, English Barb from Variation in Animals and Plants under Domestication by Charles Darwin (1868) This intriguing line drawing, Figure 20, is an original illustration from Charles Darwin's seminal work, Variation in Animals and Plants under Domestication, published in 1868. The illustration depicts a Darwins Pigeon, specifically an English Barb, a fancy domestic pigeon breed that was popular during Darwin's time. The English Barb, also known as the English Carrier or the English Tumbler, is a type of domesticated pigeon that originated from the Rock Dove (Columba livia). This breed was selectively bred for its distinctive features, such as its long, curved beak, feathered feet, and elegant plumage. Darwin's interest in pigeons began in the mid-1830s when he started collecting and studying various breeds. He observed the striking differences between the wild Rock Dove and its domesticated counterparts, which led him to ponder the mechanisms behind the development of these variations. In Variation in Animals and Plants under Domestication, Darwin presented his groundbreaking theories on the natural selection of heritable traits in domesticated animals, including pigeons. He used the English Barb, along with other pigeon breeds, as examples to support his arguments. This line drawing is a testament to the scientific importance of Darwin's work and the role that pigeons played in shaping our understanding of evolution and heredity. It also highlights the rich history of pigeon breeding and the captivating diversity of this fascinating species.
