17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite watercolor painting, titled "Chaetodon citrinellus" or the Citron Butterflyfish, is a captivating illustration from the second volume of the "A Voyage Round the World by Way of the Great South Sea" published in 1775. The painting was created during the historic first voyage of Captain James Cook (1728-1779) to explore the southern continent between 1768 and 1771. Sydney Parkinson (1745-1771), a Scottish artist and naturalist, created this masterpiece using watercolors. The Citron Butterflyfish, a vibrant and striking bony fish, is a member of the Chaetodontidae family, order Perciformes, class Perciformes, phylum Actinopterygii, and class Osteichthyes. With its distinctive yellow body, black vertical stripes, and white spots, this fish is a true beauty of the underwater world. The painting captures the fish's intricate details, from its dorsal and anal fins to its distinctive mask-like markings. The Citron Butterflyfish is known for its ability to change colors, making it an intriguing subject for Parkinson's art. This illustration is a testament to the spirit of adventure and discovery that characterized Cook's voyages. Cook's expeditions opened up new frontiers of knowledge about the natural world and expanded the horizons of European exploration. Parkinson's illustrations, including this one, were instrumental in documenting the diverse marine life of the South Pacific and beyond. This painting is a precious reminder of the rich natural history that was discovered during Cook's voyages and the role that art played in documenting and preserving it for future generations. The Citron Butterflyfish continues to be a popular subject for marine biologists, aquarists, and artists alike, and this painting remains a beautiful and enduring testament to the wonders of the underwater world.
