17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning 19th century lithograph depicts the Bay Cat, scientifically known as Felis badia, also referred to as Catopuma badia. The Bay Cat is a small wild cat species native to Asia, specifically Borneo and Sumatra. This image is taken from A Monograph of the Felidae, or Family of the Cats, an influential work by Daniel Giraud Elliot published in 1833. The lithograph was expertly hand-colored by Joseph Wolf and Joseph Smit, adding vibrant detail to the already intricate artwork. The Bay Cat is a carnivorous feline, belonging to the Felidae family, Feloidea suborder, and Felinae subfamily. Its geomorphology is adapted for its daytime hunting habits, with a slender body, long tail, and distinctive spotted coat. The Bay Cat is a solitary and elusive creature, preferring to inhabit dense forests and swampy areas. This beautiful print offers a glimpse into the natural history of this fascinating felid species. Elliot's Monograph was a groundbreaking work in its time, providing a detailed and accurate record of the various cat species known at the time. The inclusion of high-quality illustrations, such as this one, made the work an essential reference for both scientific research and conservation efforts. The Bay Cat remains an important species of Bornean biodiversity, and efforts to protect its habitat and populations continue to be a priority for conservation organizations. This image serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving the world's diverse wildlife and the role that scientific research and documentation plays in achieving that goal.
