Exploration Nova Polar Pole Scott Terra

23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his iconic exploration ship, Terra Nova, are depicted in this photograph from the heroic era of polar exploration. Taken likely during the early 20th century, the image captures the determination and grit of Scott and his team as they prepared to embark on their fateful journey to reach the South Pole. The Terra Nova, a sturdy and well-equipped steam-powered vessel, served as their primary means of transportation from the port in New Zealand to the icy Antarctic waters. Scott, a veteran of the British Royal Navy and a seasoned explorer, led the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) with the ambitious goal of reaching the geographic South Pole. The ship, named after the Roman goddess of the Earth, had undergone extensive modifications to withstand the harsh Antarctic conditions. The Terra Nova was outfitted with a reinforced hull, a new engine, and additional lifeboats to ensure the safety and success of the expedition. The photograph captures the essence of the Terra Nova Expedition, a testament to human courage and perseverance in the face of extreme adversity. The image of Captain Scott, standing proudly on the deck of the ship, gazes into the distance, his expression a mix of anticipation and resolve. The Terra Nova, anchored in the background, symbolizes the vital role of transportation in polar exploration, enabling scientists and adventurers to venture into the unknown and expand our collective knowledge of the world. This photograph is an essential piece of history, offering a glimpse into the past and reminding us of the indomitable human spirit that drives us to explore and understand the world around us.
