17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Plate 365 from John James Audubon's renowned work, "Birds of America," showcases the striking beauty of the Calcarius lapponicus, or Lapland Longspur. This exquisite hand-colored aquatint print, engraved, printed, and colored by R. Havell & Son in London between 1835 and 1838, captures the Lapland Longspur in its natural habitat - a snow-covered mountain landscape. The Lapland Longspur, a member of the Calcariidae family, is a passerine bird native to Europe and Asia. Known for its distinctive long, pointed bill and brightly colored bib, this bird is a common sight in the Arctic tundra during the daytime hours. The Lapland Longspur's plumage is a mix of brown, white, and black feathers, providing excellent camouflage against the rocky, uneven terrain of its mountainous environment. The geomorphology of the Lapland Longspur's habitat is evident in the intricately detailed landscape depicted in the background of the print. The rugged, snow-covered mountains and rocky outcroppings create a challenging yet beautiful environment for this hardy bird. Audubon's meticulous attention to detail and his ability to capture the essence of the Lapland Longspur and its habitat make this print a true masterpiece. The hand-coloring adds an additional layer of depth and vibrancy to the already stunning aquatint engraving. The Lapland Longspur is not only a fascinating bird from an avian perspective but also a geological one, as its habitat provides a glimpse into the unique and varied landscapes of the Arctic tundra. This print is a testament to Audubon's unwavering dedication to documenting the natural world and preserving its beauty for future generations.
