23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
After the Battle: A Scene of Decency and Respect in the Early Months of the First World War This evocative image, titled "After the Battle," by the renowned war artist, Phil May, working under the pseudonym of Fortunino Matania, captures a poignant moment in the early months of the First World War. The scene unfolds on the battlefield, where the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and the German army clashed in the open, marking the beginning of a long and brutal conflict. The image portrays a sense of decency and respect amidst the chaos of war. French soldiers, dressed in their old-fashioned uniforms with bright red trousers, stand guard over German prisoners. Their stern yet controlled expressions convey the seriousness of their duty. British soldiers, equally determined, ensure the orderly process of taking prisoners. In the background, a local priest acts as a Red Cross worker, tending to the wounded and offering comfort to the weary. His presence underscores the humanitarian spirit that transcended the boundaries of nationality and conflict. The juxtaposition of military discipline and religious compassion highlights the complexities of war and the enduring human spirit. The date of this imaginary scene is 1914, a time when the full horrors of the war were yet to be revealed. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the respect and decency that often prevailed in the midst of the chaos and brutality of war. This powerful and evocative image, with its rich historical significance, is an essential addition to any collection focusing on the First World War, military history, or the human spirit in times of conflict.
