17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Battle of the Dunes, fought on June 14, 1658, was a significant turning point in the Franco-Spanish War (1635-1659). This historic print, from Mary Evans Picture Library, depicts the decisive charge of the French and English forces against the Spanish army at Larache, a coastal town in present-day Morocco. The Battle of the Dunes was part of the larger campaign to relieve the Siege of Roses, a crucial port city in the Spanish Netherlands. The Spanish, led by the Duke of Lerma, had laid siege to the city in May 1658, and the French and English, under the command of the Duke of Lancaster and the Marquis de Créquy, set out to break the siege and defend their interests in the region. The Spanish forces were initially successful in repelling the French and English advance, but the tide turned when the English cavalry, led by the Earl of Derby, charged the Spanish lines with great ferocity. The Spanish were taken by surprise, and their ranks were quickly broken. The French infantry then moved in to exploit the opportunity and rout the Spanish army. The Battle of the Dunes was a significant victory for the French and English forces, as it not only lifted the siege of Roses but also marked the beginning of the end of Spanish dominance in the region. The defeat forced the Spanish to withdraw their forces from the Netherlands, paving the way for the eventual French conquest of the region during the reign of Louis XIV. This print, with its dramatic composition and intricate detail, offers a glimpse into the chaos and intensity of the battlefield. The horses and soldiers are depicted mid-charge, their expressions filled with determination and resolve. The print serves as a powerful reminder of the courage and tenacity of the soldiers who fought in this pivotal battle and the far-reaching consequences of their actions on the political landscape of Europe.
