17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in California in 1853, offers a glimpse into the rich history of America's Gold Rush era. The image depicts the essential process of gold washing on the banks of the Yuba River. Gold mining was a labor-intensive and meticulous endeavor, with water playing an indispensable role in the extraction of the precious metal. In this photograph, we see miners carefully damming and piping water from the river to wash away the sand and quartz from the gold particles. The gold was heavier than the other materials and would settle at the bottom, allowing the miners to easily collect it. The use of water in the gold mining process was a crucial innovation, as it significantly increased the efficiency and productivity of the mining operations. The Gold Rush era, which began in 1848, brought thousands of prospectors to California in search of wealth and opportunity. The discovery of gold in the American West led to a massive influx of immigrants and the development of new communities and industries. The gold mining process, as depicted in this photograph, was a defining moment in American history, shaping the country's economy and cultural identity. This photograph, with its historical significance and intriguing subject matter, is a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the human spirit. It serves as a reminder of the past and the important role that natural resources have played in shaping America's history. The image, taken from Mary Evans Prints Online, is a valuable addition to any collection of American history or gold rush era photographs.
