23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
7th NF's St. George's Day in the Trenches: A Symbol of Courage and Defiance during World War I This evocative photograph captures the spirit of the 7th Northumberland Fusiliers (NFS) on St. George's Day, April 23, 1915, as they celebrated amidst the harsh realities of the Western Front. The red and white roses, the symbol of England, are delicately stuck in the shrapnel-proof helmet of Acting Sergeant Herbert Gibson (Service Number 386202), a member of the 1st Northumbrian Field Ambulance, Royal Army Medical Corps. The image, taken during World War I (WWI or WW1), is a poignant reminder of the soldiers' determination to maintain their national identity and morale despite the horrors of the battlefield. The roses, a traditional emblem of the St. George's Day celebrations, serve as a testament to their unwavering loyalty and resilience. Herbert Gibson, born in September 1889, is seen here with a mischievous grin, holding a price list for a "fine tart" in the background. The juxtaposition of the grim battlefield setting and the lightheartedness of the moment adds depth to the human story of the war. This photograph is a valuable historical record of the 7th NFS's experience during the Great War. It offers a glimpse into the daily life and camaraderie of the soldiers, providing a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women who served during this time.
