17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph, taken by Alfred Newton and Sons in the summer of 1899, captures the daily life of a crewmaster aboard one of the many fishing boats in Grimsby Harbour, North East Lincolnshire. The image transports us back in time to an era when the town was at the heart of the British fishing industry. The crewmaster, dressed in a heavy, waterproof coat and hat, stands confidently on the dock, his gaze fixed on the horizon. He holds a large net in one hand, while the other hand rests on the shoulder of a young boy, who looks up at him with a mixture of awe and determination. The boy, likely a deckhand or apprentice, will soon learn the ropes of the trade from the experienced crewmaster. The dock is bustling with activity, as other fishermen prepare their boats for the day's catch. Nets are being mended, ropes coiled, and equipment loaded. In the background, the open sea beckons, its vast expanse dotted with sails and the occasional steamship. The photograph is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and camaraderie that defined the lives of the men and boys who made their living from the sea. Grimsby's fishing industry was a vital part of the town's economy and identity, and this image offers a rare glimpse into the daily routines and relationships that shaped this community. Today, Grimsby Harbour may no longer be the bustling hub of activity it once was, but the legacy of its rich maritime history continues to inspire and captivate visitors. This photograph, preserved by Historic England Archive, serves as a reminder of the town's proud past and the resilient spirit of its people.
