A number of vessels plying their trade on the River Mersey. George's Stage and the Three Graces, Liverpool. The "Three Graces" shown here in 1920, are the Royal Liver Building (completed in 1911 with two clock towers crowned by mythical Liver Birds), the Cunard Building (completed in 1916) and the Port of Liverpool Building (completed in 1907). Transport - Queen Mary - Southampton

The lights of the Cunard liner Queen Mary are reflected in the dark water of Southampton Docks, taken as she was prepared for her last departure on her last two-way transatlantic crossing. After nearly 32 years service, the giant vessel is to go to Long Beach, California, at the end of next month to become a floating hotel and maritime museum.

The original RMS Mauretania in the floating dry dock, Southampton. Designed by Leonard Peskett and built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson for the Cunard Line. She was launched in September 1907. Her final Atlantic crossing from New York to Southampton was in 1934 and she departed for the shipbreakers in 1935. Photographed in April 1933 by Aerofilms Ltd.
