Boat Dock Sailing Warehouse Thames Barge

17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the timeless beauty of Rochester's historic waterfront as depicted by renowned photographer J. Dixon Scott between 1925 and 1935. The image showcases a picturesque scene of sailing vessels moored alongside the timber warehouses at Rochester, located on the Medway River in Kent. The Thames barges, with their distinctive flat-bottomed hulls and tall masts, are a testament to the rich maritime history of this area. The warehouses, with their weathered facades and tall chimneys, stand as silent sentinels against the backdrop of the Thames Estuary. Their timber frames and corrugated iron roofs have weathered the test of time, reflecting the area's industrial past. The intricate network of ropes and rigging on the sailing boats adds a sense of dynamism to the otherwise static scene. The reflection of the boats and warehouses on the calm waters of the river adds an extra layer of depth and intrigue to the photograph. The soft light filtering through the clouds creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, inviting us to imagine the hustle and bustle of the bustling port that once thrived here. This photograph is a reminder of the rich maritime heritage of Rochester and the Medway Estuary, and the important role that sailing vessels and timber warehouses played in shaping the area's history. J. Dixon Scott's masterful composition and use of light and shadow capture the essence of this unique and beautiful waterfront scene.
