17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

For a Winter Campaign - Apsaroke, c1908
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print by Edward Sheriff Curtis transports us back to the early 20th century in America's rugged West. Two Apsaroke men, proud representatives of the Crow people, are depicted on horseback against a snowy backdrop. The image captures their resilience and connection with nature as they navigate the snow-covered ground.
One man is dressed in a hooded coat, shielding himself from the biting winter cold. His companion is wrapped in a warm blanket, symbolizing their resourcefulness and adaptability to harsh conditions. Both figures exude strength and determination as they traverse through this challenging landscape.
The surrounding scenery adds depth to the photograph, with trees and hillsides stretching into the distance. This glimpse into Montana's geographical features reminds us of the vastness of North America's untamed wilderness during that era.
Edward Sheriff Curtis was renowned for his ethnographic work documenting Native American cultures across the country. Through his lens, he captured not only their physical appearance but also glimpses into their rich heritage and way of life.
This particular image serves as a testament to both indigenous peoples' resilience and Curtis' skillful ability to capture moments frozen in time. It offers viewers an opportunity to reflect on our shared history while appreciating the beauty found within different cultures.
As we gaze upon this historic photograph preserved by Heritage Images at Library of Congress, let it serve as a reminder of our collective past and inspire us towards greater understanding and appreciation for all cultures that have shaped America's diverse tapestry.
