17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, dating back to the late 19th century, showcases a Todzhin Birchbark Cradle, sent to the Berlin Museum fur Volkskunde. The cradle, of unknown origin, is a beautiful example of the traditional childcare practices among the indigenous peoples of Siberia and the Russian Far East. The cradle is intricately crafted from birch bark, a material that was widely used in the region due to its availability and durability. The bark is carefully shaped and sewn together, creating a delicate and elegant design. The Todzhin Birchbark Cradle is a testament to the rich cultural heritage of the people who inhabited this region during the meeting of frontiers between Russia and the various Turkic and other ethnic groups. The cradle's simple yet elegant design reflects the deep connection between the people and their natural environment. The use of birch bark as a primary material for the cradle highlights the importance of the forest and its resources in the daily lives of these communities. The photograph, taken from the album "Puteshestviya P. Ye. Ostrovskogo na Yenisey v 1894 i 1897 godakh" (The journeys of P. E. Ostrovsky on the Yenisei in 1894 and 1897), provides a glimpse into the past, offering a close-up view of this historic object. The image also showcases the natural beauty of the region, with trees and plants surrounding the cradle, further emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between the people and their environment. This photograph is an important reminder of the diverse cultural heritage that exists within Russia and the importance of preserving and celebrating these traditions.
