17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

The Last Skald
EDITORS COMMENTS
by Johan Ludvig Gebhard Lund, painted in 1837, captures the melancholic essence of Danish heritage and tradition. The elderly man depicted in the painting is a Skald, a composer and reciter of poems honoring heroes and their deeds, a role deeply rooted in Norse culture. His long, flowing beard and thoughtful expression add to the somber atmosphere of the artwork. Dressed in traditional Danish clothing, the man wears a rich, red robe adorned with intricate patterns, symbolizing his status and connection to the country's history. The muted color palette of the painting adds to the sense of introspection and nostalgia. The man holds a lyre, a stringed musical instrument commonly used in ancient poetry and music, emphasizing the connection between the art of poetry and music. This oil painting, now housed in the Statens Museum for Kunst (National Gallery of Denmark), is a poignant reminder of Denmark's rich literary and musical heritage. The man's pensive expression and the quiet setting of the painting evoke a sense of depression and introspection, making it a powerful representation of the human condition and the importance of preserving cultural traditions. The painting, created in the 19th century, is a testament to the enduring power of art to capture the essence of a culture and its people. The Last Skald invites viewers to reflect on the importance of preserving and celebrating the stories and traditions of the past, even as the world around us continues to change. This painting is a must-see for anyone interested in Danish history, literature, and art.
