FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Sibyl and a Child Bearing a Torch," an enigmatic and captivating work of art from the 16th century, is a chiaroscuro woodcut print created by an unknown artist, likely from Italy. This masterpiece, dating between 1520 and 1540, is a stunning example of the artistic techniques and cultural heritage of the time. The print depicts a Sibyl, a prophetess from ancient mythology, holding a flaming torch and a book. A young child, dressed in brown, stands beside her, also holding a torch. The contrast between the deep black and the ochre tones creates a striking visual effect, with the figures seemingly emerging from the shadows. The initial letter 'R' at the top of the print is a common feature in Italian prints of the period, indicating the printer or publisher. The print's intricate details and masterful use of chiaroscuro, a technique that uses strong contrasts between light and dark, are reminiscent of the works of renowned artists such as Raphael and Ugo da Carpi. The Sibyl and the child are depicted in a serene and contemplative scene, with the child's gaze fixed on the book in the Sibyl's hands. The print invites viewers to ponder the significance of the Sibyl's prophecies and the role of knowledge and wisdom in the lives of children. This rare and beautiful work of art is a testament to the rich artistic and literary traditions of the 16th century. It is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of art, literature, and culture, and is currently on display at the Art Institute of Chicago as part of their extensive prints and drawings collection.
