"Flaming Torch: A Symbol of Power and Drama Throughout History" From ancient Roman hunts to mythical battles, the flaming torch has long been a captivating symbol of power and drama. In "The Bewitched Groom, " a painting by Hans Baldung from 1544, we see the groom holding a torch, perhaps representing his fiery passion for his bride. In another legendary tale, Hercules wields a torch as he bravely attacks the winged Hydra in "Hercules and the Hydra. " This depiction showcases the intense battle between man and beast. Returning to ancient Rome, Jan Collaert's engravings from Venationes Ferarum Avium Piscium depict exhilarating hunts where hunters brandish their torches against wild beasts. In Leon Davent's artwork titled "Hercules surprising Fanus who mistook him for Omphale, " Hercules once again holds aloft his blazing weapon.
