17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Shipwreck of the La Bourdonnais, Sainte Marie, Madagascar, 1893 - A Glimpse into Perilous Seas

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print by Henri Meyer takes us back to a fateful moment in history - the shipwreck of the La Bourdonnais off the coast of Sainte Marie, Madagascar in 1893. The artist's skillful use of color and detail transports us to a stormy day on the Indian Ocean. In this dramatic scene, we witness brave sailors battling against towering waves as their vessel succumbs to nature's fury. The dark clouds overhead mirror the turmoil below, emphasizing the danger and uncertainty that loom over these men. Meyer's artwork serves as both a metaphor for human perseverance in times of adversity and a reminder of our vulnerability when faced with powerful natural forces. It captures not only an event but also evokes emotions such as fear and awe at nature's might. The print offers valuable insights into naval warfare during this era while showcasing France's historical presence in Madagascar. Through its art media technique, it immortalizes a significant moment from nineteenth-century maritime history. As we gaze upon this image today, we are reminded of those who risked their lives at sea for exploration or trade. This print stands as a testament to their courage and resilience amidst treacherous waters.
