17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
Saint Jerome Hearing the Trumpet of the Last Judgment," a captivating masterpiece by the renowned 17th-century Spanish artist Jusepe de Ribera, portrays the intense moment when Saint Jerome, the renowned scholar and Father of the Church, is roused from his contemplative studies by the blaring sound of the trumpet announcing the Day of Judgment. This powerful etching, created in 1621, is a testament to the Baroque era's dynamic use of light, shadow, and emotion. The image depicts Saint Jerome, clad in monk's robes, seated in a dimly lit study, surrounded by books and parchment. His intense gaze is focused on the source of the disturbance: a majestic, horned angel blowing a brass trumpet. The angel, a symbol of divine power and the herald of the apocalypse, stands in stark contrast to the scholarly surroundings, emphasizing the imminence of the Last Judgment. The intricate etching technique, a combination of drypoint and engraving, adds depth and texture to the image. The use of contrasting light and shadow, as well as the detailed rendering of the figures and the brass instrument, create a sense of drama and urgency. This evocative work of art, which draws upon the rich tradition of Christian iconography, has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in prestigious galleries and art centers around the world. It is a testament to the enduring influence of Jusepe de Ribera, also known as "El Spagnoletto," and his mastery of the Baroque style. The image of Saint Jerome, startled from his scholarly pursuits by the call of the trumpet, serves as a poignant reminder of the transience of earthly life and the importance of spiritual preparation for the Day of Judgment.
