23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Reception of General Roberts in Mandalay at the east gate of the palace, Burma, 1887

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This print takes us back to a significant moment in history - the reception of General Frederick Sleigh Roberts in Mandalay, Burma. The year was 1887 when this remarkable event unfolded. As Commander-in-Chief of British forces in India since 1885, General Roberts played a crucial role during the incorporation of Burma into the British Raj. The image showcases an awe-inspiring scene as General Roberts confidently sits atop his majestic horse at the east gate of the palace. Surrounding him are soldiers on horseback, their presence symbolizing power and authority. The grandeur of the palace building stands tall behind them, representing colonialism and Britain's dominance over this land. The monochrome aesthetic adds depth and intensity to this historical moment captured by artist A Forestier from a sketch by Captain C Pulley. Every detail is meticulously engraved, bringing life to each figure present - men on horses, Burmese locals observing with curiosity, and animals adding an element of liveliness. General Frederick Sleigh Roberts' legacy as Lord Roberts of Kandahar and Waterford shines through this print. His military prowess resonates throughout history as he led troops into battlefields across continents. As we gaze upon this extraordinary photograph print today, we are reminded not only of a specific time but also how nations were shaped under imperial rule during the late nineteenth century. It serves as a testament to both triumphs and complexities that marked an era defined by warfare and colonial expansion.
