23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

Quelques 'AS'; Marechal des logis Vialet, 1916

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating photograph that offers a glimpse into the history of the early days of aviation during the First World War. The image, created by an unknown photographer, was first published in "L'Album de la Guerre 1914-1919, Volume 2" by L'Illustration, Paris, in 1924. The photograph features Marcel Vialet, a French Marechal des logis (Sergeant Major), standing next to a biplane, likely an early model used for reconnaissance or transport during the war. The aircraft's wings are spread wide, showcasing the intricate details of its structure. Vialet, dressed in his military uniform, gazes intently at the plane, his hands on its control bar. His expression suggests a deep connection and understanding of the machine, a testament to the bravery and skill of the early aviators. The photograph captures the essence of the First World War's air force, a critical component of the armed services that revolutionized warfare. The image is a poignant reminder of the role aviation played in the conflict, from reconnaissance and transportation to combat operations. The black and white composition adds to the timeless quality of the photograph, transporting us back to a bygone era. Marcel Viallet's story, like that of many unsung heroes of the First World War, is one of courage, innovation, and determination. The photograph is a tribute to his service and the countless others who played a vital role in the history of aviation and the armed forces. It is a powerful reminder of the human spirit and the incredible advancements that can be achieved during times of conflict.
