17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This portrait, created by Jean Amable Amedee Pastelot in 1869, showcases Guillaume Bude (1467-1540), a prominent humanist and scholar of the Renaissance period. The image transports us back to the 16th century, as Bude is depicted in formal attire, wearing a high-collared black tunic and a simple black hat. The oval-shaped canvas adds to the sense of intimacy and focus, inviting viewers to contemplate the subject's thoughtful expression and the notebook clutched in his hand. Bude's influence on European education and the spread of humanist ideas during the Northern Renaissance cannot be overstated. His dedication to the study of classical texts and the promotion of Latin literature helped shape the intellectual landscape of his time. This portrait, now housed in the Carnavalet Museum in Paris, serves as a testament to Bude's enduring legacy and the rich cultural heritage of France. Comparisons have been drawn between Pastelot's rendering of Bude and the famous portrait of Guillaume by Hans Holbein the Younger, painted around 1533. While the two portraits share similarities in their depiction of the subject, Pastelot's work offers a more introspective and contemplative interpretation of Bude's character. The meticulous attention to detail and the use of oil painting techniques further enhance the lifelike quality of the portrait, making it a valuable addition to the annals of art history.
