31"x27" (79x69cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 24x20 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 31x27 inches (787x685mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This black and white portrait captures the essence of Charlie Spivak, a renowned jazz trumpeter and bandleader of the 1940s, in the quiet intimacy of a New York City dressing room. Taken by renowned photographer William Paul Gottlieb in October 1946, this image offers a rare glimpse into the world of jazz musicians during the golden age of this American art form. Spivak is seen dressed in a simple yet elegant dressing gown, casually draped over a chair, as he carefully chooses his outfit for an upcoming performance. A jacket and dress shirt hang on the back of the door, while a trumpet and a stack of sheet music rest on a nearby table. The playbill of the theater where he is performing is visible on the floor, adding to the sense of anticipation and excitement. The portrait is a testament to the unique fashion sense of the era, with Spivak's simple yet stylish attire reflecting the cultural norms of the time. The use of monochromatic tones adds to the timeless quality of the image, transporting us back to the 1940s and the golden age of jazz. Gottlieb's masterful use of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and texture, drawing our attention to the intricacies of Spivak's face and the subtle expressions that reveal his thoughtful demeanor. This portrait is not only a beautiful work of art but also a valuable historical document, offering a glimpse into the life of a jazz legend and the world of jazz music during a pivotal moment in American history.
