17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "People of the Shilluk (Chollo), Sudan, Africa, 1936" transports us back to a time when exploration and cultural documentation were at their peak. Taken by Major R Whitbread and featured in the book "Peoples of the World in Pictures" edited by Harold Wheeler, this image offers a glimpse into the lives of indigenous tribespeople along the River Nile. In this particular scene, we see a group of men and women from the Shilluk tribe standing near the riverbank. The women are depicted holding staffs while laughing joyfully, showcasing their vibrant spirit amidst everyday life. The monochrome aesthetic adds an air of nostalgia to this powerful portrayal. The photograph not only captures individual expressions but also conveys a sense of unity within this close-knit community. It serves as a reminder that despite geographical distances or cultural differences, laughter is universal and can bridge gaps between people from all walks of life. Major R Whitbread's lens allows us to witness these remarkable individuals in their natural environment during an era when Africa was still largely unexplored by outsiders. Through his artistry and Harold Wheeler's curation, we gain insight into both the beauty and diversity found on this vast continent. As we admire this historical artifact today, let us appreciate its significance as both an artistic creation and a valuable record of African heritage.
