17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This head-and-shoulders portrait, titled "A Mohave Type," was captured by renowned American ethnographer and photographer Edward Sheriff Curtis around the year 1903. The Mohave Indian, an elder man with a wise and introspective expression, gazes directly at the camera. He is dressed in traditional clothing that reflects his rich cultural heritage. The Mohave people, also known as the Mojave, are an indigenous tribe originating from the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. The man wears a simple yet striking outfit, consisting of a cloak or blanket draped over his shoulders, a headscarf, and a necklace adorned with intricately designed beads. The clothing, though worn and faded with the passage of time, retains the vibrant colors and patterns that were once a part of the Mohave's daily life. The sepia tone of the photograph adds an air of nostalgia and timelessness, transporting us back to a bygone era. Edward Sheriff Curtis, a pioneer in the field of anthropology and ethnology, dedicated his life to documenting the lives and traditions of North America's indigenous peoples. His work, which includes thousands of photographs, films, and publications, is an invaluable resource for understanding the rich cultural heritage of the first nations of North America. This portrait, held in the Library of Congress, is a testament to Curtis's unwavering commitment to preserving the history and traditions of the Mohave people and other indigenous communities. As we gaze into the eyes of this Mohave elder, we are reminded of the importance of preserving and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage that makes up the fabric of our global community.
