23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
King Sigurd and King Baldwin of Jerusalem: An Epic Encounter at the River Jordan, 1899 This evocative and captivating work of art, created by the renowned Norwegian painter Gerhard Munthe (1849-1929), depicts an allegorical encounter between two legendary figures of the Middle Ages - King Sigurd I of Norway, also known as Sigurd the Crusader, and King Baldwin II of Jerusalem. The painting, titled "King Sigurd and King Baldwin of Jerusalem ride to the river Jordan," is a stunning example of the Art Nouveau style and can be found in the collection of the Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Arkitektur og Design in Oslo, Norway. The scene unfolds with King Sigurd, clad in armor and mounted on horseback, leading King Baldwin, dressed in royal robes, towards the shimmering waters of the River Jordan. The two monarchs, united by their shared crusader spirit, gaze intently at each other, their expressions conveying mutual respect and admiration. This encounter is believed to be inspired by the Old Norse sagas, specifically "Magnussonnes Saga," which recounts Sigurd's participation in the First Crusade and his alliance with Baldwin II of Jerusalem. Munthe masterfully employs ink and pencil on paper to create a rich tapestry of intricate details, from the undulating waves of the river to the intricately patterned armor and robes of the kings. The painting's composition, with the towering mountains in the background and the lush vegetation along the riverbank, further emphasizes the grandeur and majesty of this historic moment. This striking image not only showcases Munthe's exceptional artistic abilities but also offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of medieval mythology and the enduring legacy of the crusades.
