17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite pencil drawing by Jan Brandes, titled "Kelaniya Stupa in Ceylon, 1785," offers a captivating glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka during the 18th century. The image depicts the Kalyani Dagaba or Stupa of the Buddhist monastery Kelaniya Rajamahavihara, located in the outskirts of Colombo. The stupa, with its elegant spiral design and intricate ornamentation, stands proudly amidst houses on either side, reflecting the harmonious coexistence of religious and secular life during that era. Brandes, a Dutch artist, meticulously captured the architectural grandeur of the stupa, its curved roofs and intricate decorative elements, with remarkable detail and precision. The houses in the background, with their red-tiled roofs and whitewashed walls, add a sense of scale and context to the drawing. The artist's use of pencil and ink creates a sense of depth and texture, while the delicate shading adds a three-dimensional quality to the image. The drawing is an invaluable addition to the artistic and historical record of Sri Lanka during the Dutch colonial period. It provides a rare insight into the architectural and religious heritage of the country, which continues to be an inspiration for artists and scholars alike. This beautiful drawing is currently housed in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and serves as a testament to the enduring influence of Sri Lankan art and culture on the global stage.
