17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

A Goldfinch and his Mistress, 1796

EDITORS COMMENTS
is a captivating print that takes us back to the elegant world of 18th-century Britain. Created by Isaac Cruikshank and illustrated by George Paston, this artwork showcases the intricate details of fashion and social dynamics during this era. In the center of the composition stands a dashing gentleman, dressed in a finely tailored suit adorned with feathers. His hat adds an air of sophistication to his appearance as he delicately holds onto a golden birdcage housing a beautiful goldfinch. The man's gaze is fixed on his mistress, who exudes gracefulness in her exquisite dress. The woman's attire reflects the height of fashion at that time – layers upon layers of ruffled fabric cascade down from her waistline while her hat boasts an extravagant feather arrangement. With one hand resting gently on her chest, she gazes affectionately at both her companion and the vibrant goldfinch perched nearby. This print not only captures the essence of 18th-century style but also hints at themes such as marriage and companionship. The goldfinch symbolizes love, loyalty, and beauty – qualities desired in relationships during this period. Through their collaboration, Cruikshank and Paston transport us to an era where fashion was artistry itself and where human connections were celebrated through delicate gestures. "A Goldfinch and his Mistress" invites viewers to appreciate not only its aesthetic charm but also reflect upon timeless aspects of human
