23"x19" (58x48cm) Premium Frame

FSC real wood frame with double mounted 16x12 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 23x19 inches (584x482mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photo print, titled "Eagle Attacking a Monkey" was created by the talented Japanese artist Kawanabe Kyosai in 1885. The image depicts a dramatic scene of nature's raw power as an eagle swoops down to attack its unsuspecting prey, a monkey hanging from a tree branch. Kyosai masterfully captures the intensity and ferocity of this moment through his skilled use of ink and color on paper. The composition is presented as a traditional hanging scroll, adding to the sense of historical significance and cultural heritage that emanates from this artwork. As one gazes upon it, they are transported back to 19th-century Japan, where animals played significant roles in art and symbolism. Kyosai's attention to detail is evident in every stroke of his brush. The intricate feathers of the eagle are meticulously rendered, showcasing the artist's technical prowess. Similarly, the monkey's expression conveys fear and vulnerability as it desperately clings onto life. This painting not only showcases Kyosai's artistic abilities but also serves as a reminder of humanity's fascination with animal behavior throughout history. It invites viewers to contemplate themes such as predator-prey relationships, survival instincts, and our place within nature. Displayed at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), this piece stands as a testament to Kyosai's enduring legacy in Japanese art history. Its presence within their collection ensures that future generations can appreciate both the beauty and complexity captured within this remarkable work.
