17"x15" (43x38cm) Premium Frame
FSC real wood frame with double mounted 10x8 print. Double mounted with white conservation mountboard. Frame moulding comprises stained composite natural wood veneers (Finger Jointed Pine) 39mm wide by 21mm thick. Archival quality Fujifilm CA photo paper mounted onto 1mm card. Overall outside dimensions are 17x15 inches (431x381mm). Rear features Framing tape to cover staples, 50mm Hanger plate, cork bumpers. Glazed with durable thick 2mm Acrylic to provide a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish. Acrylic Glass is far safer, more flexible and much lighter than typical mineral glass. Moreover, its higher translucency makes it a perfect carrier for photo prints. Acrylic allows a little more light to penetrate the surface than conventional glass and absorbs UV rays so that the image and the picture quality doesn't suffer under direct sunlight even after many years. Easily cleaned with a damp cloth. Please note that, to prevent the paper falling through the mount window and to prevent cropping of the original artwork, the visible print may be slightly smaller to allow the paper to be securely attached to the mount without any white edging showing and to match the aspect ratio of the original artwork.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This half-tone photomechanical print depicts Dr. Edward Wilmot Blyden, a prominent African and African American figure, in two distinct periods of his life: 1894 and 1906. The image, created by an unknown photographer, showcases Blyden's strong and direct gaze, as he looks intently at the camera. In the earlier photograph from 1894, Blyden is dressed in formal attire, wearing a dark suit and a crisp white shirt, with a bow tie and a hat adorning his head. This outfit suggests his role as a diplomat or politician, as he was a prominent figure in Liberian politics and served as Liberia's Commissioner to the United States from 1893 to 1896. In the second image from 1906, Blyden's appearance has changed slightly, with his hair appearing more gray and his clothing more casual, yet still maintaining a formal air. He is dressed in a dark suit jacket, with a lighter colored shirt and a striped tie. Blyden was a prolific writer, educator, and political thinker, who advocated for the unity of the African diaspora and the African continent. He spent much of his life promoting education and self-improvement among Africans and African Americans. This rare and intriguing print is part of the extensive collection of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture at the New York Public Library. The image serves as a powerful reminder of Blyden's significant contributions to African and African American history, and his enduring legacy as a trailblazer and visionary leader.
